Morakana presented me with a unique challenge—build an online portfolio showcasing their diverse capabilities and interests with easy long-term maintenance (built strictly on their existing system) and one specific request: absolutely no rounded corner rectangles. I was delighted.
I used their mission statement as the main navigation strategy. Categories, enhanced with playful typographic animations, served as sub-navigation into each project. No rounded rectangles were used in the design—only organic, random shapes and right angle rectangles were allowed. This approach emphasized the organic nature—both literal and philosophical—of Morakana's work.
For consistency, I created an extensive components library in Semplice for their project detail pages. For easy maintenance, I designed the index page—where most editing occurs—with a flexible layout that handles complex information through a simple JSON dataset. This allows Morakana to easily update their engagements and upcoming shows.
